Enhancing Health Care Equity through the Provision of Accommodations to Patients for Disabilities: A Panel Discussion had TWO chances to join!

The first event took place on April 13th, 2023, from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM ET during Health Care Equity Month at Michigan Medicine. This event was perfect for anyone affiliated with the University of Michigan.

Participants heard from panelists about the Disability Accommodations Tab within MiChart and how to use it to optimize care for our patients. Legal requirements were discussed, and practical information and resources were presented. This panel was geared towards healthcare providers and trainees. 

Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) and ASL interpreting will be provided.

Matthew Galvan, JD is the Michigan Medicine Patient Civil Rights Coordinator.  In his role, Matt coordinates compliance with federal civil rights laws and oversees the implementation of the patient civil rights grievance procedure.  He holds a BA in History from the University of Michigan and a law degree from Wayne State University Law School.  Before joining Michigan Medicine, Matt conducted civil rights investigations for the State of Michigan in employment, education, law enforcement, public service, and public accommodations.
