Docs with Disabilities Initiative: Access In Medicine Book Club

3:30 pm to 5:00 pm

The Docs with Disabilities Initiative "Access In Medicine" launched their third book club which highlights Demystifying Disability: What to Know, What to Say, and How to Be an Ally, by Emily Ladau.

This work is an approachable guide to being a thoughtful, informed ally to disabled people, with actionable steps for what to say and do (and what not to do) and how you can help make the world (and health professions education) a more accessible, inclusive place.

Join us on April 10th, 2024 for a Q&A Session with Author Emily Ladau.

How do the meetings work?

Each meeting will be moderated by experienced disability equity professionals who will facilitate a discussion of each chapter. Emily will even join us to discuss the book at the conclusion of the event!

The goal of our book club is to empower health professions education stakeholders (e.g., DEIA/JEDI teams, DRP's, staff, and faculty) to become thoughtful, informed allies to disabled students.

How do I sign up and what do I need to participate?

  1. Register for the meeting series. RSVPs are required.
  2. Obtain the book from your local library or preferred bookstore.
  3. Read the assigned chapter before each session date (see schedule below).
  4. Attend the meeting to learn from peers and experts.

Meetings will be held virtually via Zoom and captioning will be provided for each meeting. Please request accommodations two weeks in advance of each meeting.
