The University of Michigan Center for Disability Health and Wellness hosted a live panel discussion on Saturday January 16, 2021 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (observed on the following Monday). Panelists included: Mrs. Tameka Citchen-Spruce from Healthy Dearborn, Beaumont Health; Ms. Jaime Junior from Warriors on Wheels of Metropolitan Detroit, and Mr. Jeffrey Nolish from Detroit Disability PowerDr. Sheria Robinson-Lane, Assistant Professor in University of Michigan School of Nursing. The conversation was moderated by Dr. Michelle Meade, co-director of the CDHW.

This was a live discussion with experts who:

  • shared facts based on science 
  • acknowledged lack of trust of healthcare by African Americans 
  • discussed steps toward equitable and ethical healthcare 
  • shared their personal stories about COVID-19, vaccines, and health disparities
